Nigel Strachan has been appointed the new Chairman of the Jersey Funds Association. Strachan is joined by Edward Devenport who becomes Vice Chair. Strachan and Devenport have both been active members of the Association’s committee for several years, working on a range of technical and regulatory issues on behalf of Jersey’s funds sector.
Strachan and Devenport replace former Chairman Richard Thomas and Vice Chair Susan Clark, who have been at the helm of the JFA over the last three years.
Other members of the newly elected JFA Committee are Nick Taylor (Treasurer), Vernon Breese, Julia Chapman, Ian Crosby, Kevin Gilley, Eve Kosofsky, Andrew Mason, Graeme McArthur, Tim Morgan, Martin Paul, Michael Rothwell, Jenny Swan, Gayle Swanson, Nigel Watson and Andrew Wignall.
A chartered accountant and currently Head of New Business for Corporate Clients at Kleinwort Benson in Jersey, Strachan said: “Globally, the funds industry faces interesting and challenging times. However, as one of the main players in the offshore funds industry with a strong commitment to transparency and a first rate regulatory regime, I am confident Jersey will be adept at rising to the challenges it faces in the current economic climate and in responding positively to moves towards a more regulated industry internationally.”
Devenport, a Jersey solicitor and currently a Partner at law firm Mourant Ozannes, added: “The Association has a highly experienced committee, which will continue to look carefully at the issues facing the industry. By working in partnership with Jersey Finance and maintaining a good working relationship with the Jersey Financial Services Commission, we will strive to bring cutting edge solutions to the table and maintain Jersey’s tradition of being an innovative leader in the marketplace.”
