Olivetree Securities has added to its team with the appointment of James Netherthorpe as Chief Operating Officer and Head of Distribution.

Netherthorpe, who will be joining the firm in October, will be part of the management team and responsible for further developing the firm’s strategic direction and the ongoing expansion of its secondary business. In his role as Head of Distribution he will also act as a senior client relationship manager and will manage the firm’s sales team.

Netherthorpe joins Olivetree from hedge fund manager Marshall Wace, where he was a partner responsible for developing the firm’s trading capabilities managing a global team of eight traders. Prior to this, Netherthorpe worked for five years in pan-European equity sales trading at Goldman Sachs. From 1990 to 1997, he was at UBS in pan-European equity sales and was head of the desk from 1995. Before this, he spent three years in New York working in pan-European equity sales for Prudential Securities.

Daryn Kutner, Olivetree’s CEO and Founder, said: “We are delighted that James has decided to join us as Chief Operating Officer and Head of Distribution. Olivetree recently marked its first anniversary and James’ arrival signals the beginning of the next phase in our development. James will be central to deciding the Firm’s strategic direction, working closely with our customers to ensure we move in a direction that enables us to add most value. “

Netherthorpe added, "From my time on the buy side Olivetree Securities made the biggest impression of any new broking business. They have an innovative structure, high quality people and a clear understanding of the needs of their client base. Their philosophy of independent advice combined with their commercial approach makes Olivetree a unique platform on which to build a strong and sustainable business. I feel fortunate to have been given the chance to participate in their future."
