Matrix Asia Fund announces the appointment of Sam West to the team, joining Rupert Foster and David Peerless. Since its launch 18 months ago on 08/08/08, the Matrix Asia Fund has outperformed the MSCI Asia Pacific Index by 48.09% returning 33.89% by using a long-short strategy that increasingly focuses on the relative winners and losers of the Asian growth story.

Sam West joins from Cantillon Capital Management. He previously worked with Rupert at FM Capital. Sam is steeped in Asian experience having studied East Asian Studies at Stanford University and obtained a Japanese language scholarship from Daiichi Keizai University, Fukuoka Japan. Sam obtained a 1st Class BA in Classics from Oxford University.

Commenting on the appointment and the outlook for Asian markets, Rupert Foster, Manager of the Matrix Asia Fund, said: ”I am delighted that Sam is joining the team. His Asian experience will prove invaluable as I firmly believe that it is imperative to understand the structure of each country’s economy; its idiosyncrasies and stage of development.

I expect Asian markets to hit new highs in the next two-to-three years. The attraction of investment in “growing” Asia will become all the more apparent by comparison with “no growth” Western economies.”
